November Journal Prompts: For Whatever Season of Life You're In
We don't all need the same questions. Sometimes, the hardest part of writing is simply not knowing where to begin, what to say, or what the very first word should be. And perhaps all we need to get started is a question that invites us to pause, reflect, and look a little deeper within ourselves.
One of the things I hear most often when I talk about journaling is, "I'd love to start, but I don't know what to write."
I think we often associate keeping a journal with sitting down at the end of the day and writing about everything that happened, much like we did when we were little. But journaling can be so much more than that. It can help us organize our thoughts, explore an emotion, find inspiration, or simply take a few moments to reconnect with ourselves.
And something I've learned is that not every question resonates with us in the same way. A question that means very little to you today might be exactly the one you need to answer a few months from now.
So, for November, I wanted to put together a small collection of questions organized around different moments we might be experiencing in our lives.
You don't have to answer them all or follow any particular order. Simply find the category that resonates with you most right now and begin there.
01. If You're Feeling a Little Lost
For those moments when you know something needs to change, but you can't quite identify what it is.
- What part of my life feels disconnected from who I am today?
- What am I still doing simply because it's what I've always done?
- What aspects of my life no longer align with the woman I want to become?
- If I stopped worrying about other people's expectations, what would I choose for myself?
02. If You're Going Through a Difficult Time in a Relationship
Not necessarily a romantic relationship. Sometimes it might be a friendship, a family relationship, or even the relationship we have with ourselves.
- How do I truly feel within this relationship?
- Is there something I need to communicate that I've been avoiding?
- Am I expecting someone to understand something I've never actually expressed?
- What boundaries do I need to establish to protect my well-being while still remaining empathetic?
03. If You Want a Fresh Start but Don't Know Where to Begin
For those moments when we feel the need to make changes, but the thought of everything they involve feels overwhelming.
- What area of my life would I like to simplify?
- What am I trying to change all at once when I could start with something small?
- What habit would I like to introduce over the next 30 days?
- What is one small first step I could take this very week?
04. If You Want to Reconnect With Your Creativity and Find Inspiration
Creativity doesn't belong only to those who work in artistic fields. It also lives in our curiosity, our interests, and the things we'd love to discover but rarely make time for.
- What things used to excite me when I was little?
- What subject sparks my curiosity, but I always find an excuse not to explore?
- What hobby or activity would I love to try if I stopped worrying about having enough time or being good at it?
- When was the last time I did something simply for the joy of doing it?
05. If You Feel Like You're Changing
Sometimes growing means recognizing that certain things that once represented us no longer fit who we are today.
- What things that used to matter to me no longer feel as important?
- What version of myself do I feel I'm leaving behind?
- What have I learned about myself this year?
- What would I like to give myself permission to explore without feeling the need to justify it?
06. If You Want to Find More Gratitude in Everyday Life
It's not about ignoring the difficult moments, but about learning to recognize the things that also deserve our attention.
- What small moment from this week would I like to remember?
- What do I have today that I deeply wished for a few years ago?
- Who has had a positive impact on my life recently?
- What simple things make an ordinary day feel special?
07. If You Want to Look Toward the Future With Intention
Sometimes writing about the future helps us recognize what we truly want, beyond expectations and the goals we think we're supposed to have.
- What would an ordinary day look like in a life that made me feel fulfilled?
- What experiences would I love to have over the next year?
- What would I like to learn, even if it had no practical purpose?
- If I could write a letter to my future self one year from now, what would I want to tell her?
One Last Thought
You don't have to turn journaling into another obligation in your routine.
Maybe today you only have five minutes. Maybe you write just a few lines, or perhaps one question leads you to fill three entire pages. Both are equally valid ways to begin.
My invitation for this November is simple: choose a question that connects with something you're currently experiencing and give yourself the space to answer it honestly. Don't think about who might read it or worry about finding the perfect words. Simply let the first thoughts that come to mind flow onto the page, without judging them or trying to put them in any particular order.
Sometimes, a single question can be the beginning of a conversation we've needed to have with ourselves for a long time. An opportunity to put into words the things we've been holding inside, the thoughts that have been weighing on us, or the feelings we haven't quite been able to understand.
I hope this exercise helps you as much as it has helped me.
Until next time,
xx, Sharon
